Our immune systems are becoming increasingly dysregulated and the rise in autoimmune conditions is happening at a rapid rate. I am seeing an influx of patients at Bodhi Wellness with autoimmune conditions and as such it's become an area of special interest of mine.
You may have heard of the term 'autoimmune disease' before but unsure what exactly it means. You may have been recently diagnosed with one and looking for support outside the realms of pharmaceutical medication, or you may have been struggling to manage your autoimmune condition and searching for answers beyond the current plan you're on.
Essentially an autoimmune disease is when the immune system, which is only supposed to attack outside invaders, starts attacking the cells in your body. For example, rheumatoid arthritis occurs when our immune system attacks the joints, which leads to severe pain and swelling. Hashimoto’s disease is an autoimmune thyroid condition, which eventually causes fatigue, depression, and weight gain (among other symptoms). Whilst for those with inflammatory bowel disease such as ulcerative colitis and Crohn’s disease, the dysregulated immune system causes the intestinal tract to become severely inflamed, leading to a whole host of problematic gut symptoms.
